Orbit is a web application that works in any modern browser. Here's what we test and support.
Primary (tested daily by our team)
- Safari on macOS — Our primary development browser. Heavily tested.
- Safari on iPhone — Tested on iPhone 14/15/16. Full mobile experience.
- Safari on iPad — Tested for tablet layout.
- Chrome on macOS — Second most-tested browser.
Fully supported
- Chrome (macOS, Windows, Linux, Android)
- Safari (macOS, iOS, iPadOS)
- Firefox (macOS, Windows, Linux)
- Edge (Windows, macOS)
Automated testing
Our test suite runs across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit (Safari's engine) automatically on every release. We test on desktop and mobile viewports (iPhone 14, Pixel 7).
Known considerations
Safari/iOS:
- Background tabs may disconnect WebSocket (sync reconnects automatically when you return)
- Push notifications require allowing them in System Settings > Notifications
- The app works best when added to Home Screen (standalone mode)
Chrome:
- All features work. Push notifications work natively.
Firefox:
- All core features work. Some CSS animations may render slightly differently.
Mobile browsers:
- Orbit is fully responsive and works on phones and tablets
- Best experience on screens 375px+ wide
- The mobile nav, dashboard, and all tools are optimized for touch
Minimum requirements
- A browser released after 2022
- JavaScript enabled
- Cookies enabled (required for authentication)
- ~50MB of localStorage available (for offline data)
Progressive Web App (PWA)
Orbit can be installed as an app on your device:
- iOS: Open in Safari > Share > Add to Home Screen
- Android: Chrome will prompt "Add to Home Screen" automatically
- Desktop: Click the install icon in the browser address bar
The PWA version runs in standalone mode (no browser chrome) and supports offline use.
