Career changers face unique challenges: different resume expectations, unfamiliar networks, and self-doubt about qualifications. Orbit supports all of this.

Set your career stage

Go to Settings > Preferences and select "Career Changer." This adjusts Orbit's tone and advice to focus on transferable skills and positioning.

Resume strategy

  1. Set up your Candidate Profile with emphasis on transferable skills
  2. Use Resume Tailor for every application — it highlights connections between your experience and the new role
  3. Focus the summary on what you bring from your previous career, not what you lack

Network strategy

Your existing network is more valuable than you think:

  • Former colleagues who moved to your target industry
  • Friends who can introduce you to people in the field
  • LinkedIn connections in the target company/role

Add all of them to Contacts and link to relevant jobs.

Application strategy

  • Apply to roles one level below where you were (the title drop is temporary)
  • Tag jobs by how well they match your transferable skills
  • Track which framing gets responses in your Trends data

Ask Scout for help

Try these prompts:

  • "How do I position my [old role] experience for a [new role] position?"
  • "What transferable skills should I highlight for [industry]?"
  • "Review my pipeline — am I targeting the right roles?"
