Job search burnout is real. If you're feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or hopeless, that's a signal to adjust — not to push harder.
Signs you might be burned out
- Dreading opening job boards
- Applying carelessly just to hit a number
- Feeling worse after each rejection
- Avoiding follow-ups because "what's the point"
- Difficulty sleeping or constant anxiety
What to do in Orbit
1. Turn on Quiet Mode
Your dashboard will show fewer metrics and more encouragement. It doesn't stop tracking — it just reduces the pressure.
2. Lower your daily goals
Go to Tools > Goals and reduce your targets. One application and one follow-up per day is enough. Consistency beats intensity.
3. Use the wellness tools
Tools > Wellness has:
- Breathing exercises (4 minutes)
- Anxiety toolkit
- Journal prompts for processing your feelings
- Mood tracking to see patterns
4. Review your Week in Review
Sometimes we forget our progress. The Week tab shows what you've actually accomplished — it might be more than you think.
5. Talk to Scout
Ask: "I'm feeling burned out. Help me prioritize my top 3 actions for this week." It will cut through the noise.
Strategic adjustments
- Quality over quantity. Apply to fewer jobs but invest more in each application.
- Network more, apply less. Conversations are less draining than applications and more effective.
- Take a day off. Seriously. Your pipeline will be here tomorrow.
When to get help
If burnout persists for more than 2 weeks, or if you're experiencing depression or anxiety that affects daily life, please reach out to a mental health professional. Orbit's wellness tools are supportive, but they're not a substitute for professional care.
