Organize contacts by type

ContactsUpdated Mar 13, 2026~1 min read

Assign a type to each contact so you can filter, sort, and prioritize your outreach.

Contact types:

  • Internal Recruiter — A recruiter who works at the hiring company
  • Agency Recruiter — A recruiter at a third-party staffing agency
  • Executive Recruiter — A recruiter at a senior-level search firm
  • Hiring Manager — The person who would manage you in the role
  • Referral — Someone who referred you or can provide a referral
  • Connection — A general professional contact

Relationship strength:

A colored dot on each contact card shows how active the relationship is:

  • Green — Recent interaction (within 7 days)
  • Yellow — Cooling off (7 to 14 days)
  • Gray — Cold (14 or more days)

Why types matter:

Follow-up reminders prioritize hiring managers and referrals over general connections. Contact types also affect how items are ranked in Today Focus.

Tip: Set the correct type when you add a contact. It helps Orbit give you better follow-up suggestions.
